The Timberlane hockey team officially combined with the Pelham hockey team because of low numbers on both sides, and they’re off to a 2-0 start. After struggling in recent years this brings hope to the teams.
Since the first competition of the season, The team played in the Dover Jamboree, which Timberlane plays in every year. They played in four 30 minute games and they went 1-3. The one win against Portsmouth-Newmarket-Sanborn was promising considering in the past four years, Timberlane hasn’t won a single game in the Jamboree. The other games didn’t go that bad either and overall the team was proud of their performance this early in the season.
“Between the incoming freshman and the new Pelham kids it will take everyone a little while to learn the systems. Nonetheless the team is adapting very quickly and we will be ready to go for our first game,” said Assistant Captain Arturo Saldarriaga. They won their first game against Monadnock-Fall Mountain-Conant 3-2 in overtime with Arturo Saldriaga getting the game winning goal. Then they got their second win two days later against Bishop Brady-MV. The score was 3-1 with Arturo getting 2 of those goals and Tyler Kuchar getting the other.
“Those games were very important for the team. We hope to keep that trend going this year and maybe make it into the playoffs,” said Captain Cole Rego. Because of the combination, the team is setting high expectations for the year and hope to reach them. They have been seeing more and more success each year and want to continue that. “Winning those first two games set a high standard for the team. Starting the season off with success has a big impact on the rest of the season and we’re working hard to make sure we get more wins,” said Captain Cole Rego.
