The Timberlane Owls Football Team may have risen back from the dead. After an upsetting season last year, they have come back to play, and maybe longer than usual. As of October 12th , the Timberlane Owls are 3-3 and are scheduled to play Alvirne this Friday, October 17th. Playoffs are in front of them, and they are looking to make a push for it.
The 17th is their senior night as well as their last home game of the season. The Owls have lost to Winnacunnet, Manchester Memorial, and Exeter, who have a combined loss of 2. They have taken care of business against teams they should have.
Mike Santosuosso shared his thoughts on the matter.
“Yes, I think we’ll win, we’ve played hard against hard teams and showed resilience”, says Senior Captain and three season athlete, Mike Santousosso.
The Alvirne Broncos are 1-5, currently struggling in the league, but they shouldn’t be counted out against Timberlane. They played juggernaut teams against Londonderry, Salem, Pinkerton, Concord, and Windham, all playoff teams last year. Their lone win came against a subpar Manchester Central team, via NHIAA.org.
“I think if the owls win 4 games this year, they’ll get into the playoffs. I think we’re better than Alvirne, they’re one and five, and we’re 3-3. We should win,”says football Assistant Coach Alex Horgan.
So far, if the Owls get 1 more win on the season, they basically have a locked playoff spot. Their remaining schedule of the season after Alvirne consists of Portsmouth, who are 2-3, and Concord, who are also 2-3. They don’t have that hard of a remaining schedule, but they are going to be competitive games. If they get in the playoffs, it’ll be their first appearance since 2022.
“I think they’ve got potential with some easy teams coming up, so I’m pretty sure they’ve got a playoff spot in easy”, says Matt Cairns, a Sr. Soccer Capt.
The Owls don’t have any key injuries on the team, so they don’t have anything holding them down in these upcoming games. They are playing for a wildcard spot in the league. They are currently ranked 4th in the East, behind Exeter, Winnacunnet, and Manchester Memorial. 13 teams are allowed into the playoffs.
“ I think we’ll make the playoffs because we’re a hard-working team,” says Timberlane Sophomore Kyle Parkhurst.
Everyone seems to think that the Timberlane Owls have a great chance, almost a definite chance to make the playoffs. Only time will tell in their upcoming games.
As of Tuesday, October 28, the Owls are now 3-5 with two upsetting losses versus Alvirne and Portsmouth. They were competitive games, with 1 score difference in both, but they fell short. Even with those losses, they have a slim chance of getting in the playoffs if a ton of scenarios play out. They have to beat Concord to have a chance at that, and maybe get a wild card spot.
