Timberlane Regional High School is the home of the 9-6-1 Girls Varsity Field Hockey team. This is the first since 2016 that the Lady Owls have won eight games in a season. With this, the Owls are riding high and eager to take on the post season.
A Two year captain and Division 1 Honorable mention, Taylor Alperin has been the leading face for Timberlane Field hockey since 2023. “I think our team’s current success is because of our team culture. We all are like a family. We get along on and off the field, hang out the night before game days and have pasta parties and you can see that translate into our gameplay”, stated Alperin when asked what the key to her team’s success was.
The Owls have had a tough schedule. They have faced top tier opponents that give them a run for their money. A four year varsity player like Alperin knows the course of the game and has heightened game IQ. “Once I step onto the field I immediately lock in. I start listening to music and try to get the rest of the team pumped up” stated Alperin. Her unmatched passion for the game and team spirit is what landed her this role as captain.
Division 1 Honorable Mention as well as Co-Captain, Ava Paul has had a pivotal role in the 2025 field hockey season. Paul is a starting defender and an anchor for the Lady Owls defense. Very optimistic about the run that her and teammates have the potential to conquer, Paul states, “We know for a fact that we are in the playoffs, we just have these last 2 games to determine if we are hosting a home playoff game. We hope to make it to quarter finals, at my time at Timberlane we have only made it to prelims and with us having the potential to host a home game, that is very likely.” Having a home playoff game will be a turning point for Owls Field Hockey History.
Paul is very excited to lead her team into the playoffs but also acknowledges that playoffs is very hard and each game is unpredictable. “As a captain, I always bring the team together and tell them to focus up and leave everything they have on the field. Sometimes, I will send out a text the night before telling them to mentally dial in for said game” said Paul.
Both Captains, Paul and Alperin, are outstanding leaders who are soaking up every last bit of their senior season as a part of the Timberlane Field Hockey Program. Although Alperin will be taking her talents to Shenandoah University and Paul will be attending a four year college in the fall, they leave behind a very valuable midfielder, Aubrey Fitzgerald who will not be afraid to fill their shoes.
Aubrey Fitzgerald is currently a junior and was graciously awarded Division 1 Second Team last season. Fitzgerald is instrumental in Timberane going out and winning games. “I believe the reason we have been so successful this year is because of our coaching staff on the sidelines, as well as everyone’s hard work that they have put in during preseason and in every practice”, stated Fitzgerald, a hopeful captain of next year’s Varsity squad.
Fitzgerald believes that the team needs to stay focused and really dial in on their offensive drive to the cage and their strong defensive structure they have been having all season long. “Now is not the time to give up,” said Fitzgerald.
The Owls had an unfortunate 1-0 loss against the Merrimack Tomahawks, leading to the Owls getting knocked out of playoffs. Each member of this team had a pivotal role when making this season a success. Lots of different aged and skilled players earned the Player Of The Game award after each game they won. The Owls are hopeful to return next season with the same attitude and drive they had through the duration of this year.
