This year Tiger Woods decided to step down from golf to take a break and focus on his recovery and mental health. Tiger Woods drives like he hates cars, and has a history for driving while under the influence. He was formally charged for DUI twice but he was also suspected of it in a separate car crash in Florida years ago. He has crashed four cars since 2009. All cars he has crashed or gotten a dui in cost more than the average household income in a year. He can drive off the tee a lot better than he can drive a SUV. Woods put up all zeroes on a breathalyzer but was given field sobriety tests after being “lethargic.” He was eventually handcuffed, and it is now speculated that he is in Switzerland for treatment. Woods told law enforcement prior to the field sobriety tests that he underwent seven back surgeries and “over 20 operations on his leg.” He told law enforcement that “I take a few” prescription medications. In 2021, he got into a wreck that resulted in serious leg injuries that kept him off the golf course for the entire year.
But with his track record and his reputation he still wants to compete. Tiger has stated many times that as soon as he is all better that he wants to go back to compete in the majors. He still has motivation to compete at an expert level. Many believe that his skill is still intact and that the only reason he is off the tour is due to his injuries from his accident. He suffers from chronic pain that is constant and many think that’s why he is so comfortable driving high. Many still wait for the comeback they expected back in 2017 after his stint in rehab.
Tiger woods will always be a part of golf history as one of the best. But will that history get sullied or will his reputation get the best of his achievements. It’s sad that people now question his accomplishments just because of a chronic pain issue and most likely abuse of substances. As someone who has dealt with addicts it’s hard to see someone you admire go down a bad path in life and there’s nothing that you can do because they don’t want to make a change.
