In Super Bowl LX, played on February 8th, the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots played against each other. While the game had a lot of attention, the halftime show had just as many views.
The halftime show was headlined by a Puerto Rican singer and rapper, Bad Bunny. The Bad Bunny performance was a cultural phenomenon. With his spanish speaking music, having electric music with a great powerful message to go with it. The performance was the first Super Bowl halftime show to be solely presented in Spanish. The energy was high as he took the stage. He got everyone’s attention with his unique entrance. During the show, the singer/rapper made sure there was more than music having fun with appreciating the culture of what he was singing.
His halftime show ended up getting 4.157 billion views within 24 hours. He wanted his halftime show to present a lot of diversity and unity to the country, said ESPN. It featured two different artists Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. The Bad Bunny halftime show averaged 128.2 million people viewing it on NBC heavily out performing the Kid Rock, that only drew roughly 6.1 million viewers on Youtube. Bad Bunny’s performance has reached over 20 times the audience of the alternate show, which was hosted by the Turning point USA. He gained nearly 1 million followers making his total 52.7 million.
In late September, the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would be the performance for this year’s halftime show. ESPN reported that he has openly criticitzed Trump administration for his immigration policies. This caused immediate backlash from supporters and the Trump administration. Department of Homeland Security advisor, Corey Lewandowski said “It’s so shameful that they’ve decided to pick someone who just seems to hate America so much to represent them at the halftime game.” reported ESPN.
