Wednesday before Thanksgiving, a shooting in DC took the life of a member of the national guard.
On November 26th, in Washington, DC, two national guard members were shot. One being killed and the other critically injured. 29 year old Rahmanullah Lakanwal was accused of the shooting and has been charged with the murder. Lakanwal was charged with shooting and killing 20 year old Sarah Breckstrom of the U.S. Air Force. According to ABC news, an autopsy by Washington, D.C. Examiner’s Office proved Breckstrom was shot once in the back of the head.
24 year old Andrew Wolfe was also shot in the head and critically injured in the shooting. The shooting took place during rush hour, the day before Thanksgiving. Soon after the initial shooting, according to ABC news, another National Guard member shot Lakanwal. After being shot, he was subdued by a Secret Service Officer and a witness and taken into custody.
According to ABC news, Lakanwal appeared before a judge remotely from his hospital bed. Lakanwal was charged with one count of murder, two counts of assault with intent to kill, and one count of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. Lakanwal pleaded not guilty to the charges.
