Drake Maye is now the MVP front runner in the NFL and has brought the Patriots back to dominance.
According to Sports illustrated Maye is already rewriting Patriots record books. Drake has broken hall of fame quarterback Tom Brady’s single game completion percentage franchise record with 91.3% passes completed. He holds the franchise record for most consecutive games with a passer rating above 100.0 and also the single season franchise record for most games with at least 80% completion percentage. In his first full season with the Patriots he’s brought them to a 10-2 record through 12 games. This is significant when you consider their record through 12 games last year was 2-10.
It hasn’t always shined this bright for Drake aye. In 2024 the rookie quarterback started the season on the sideline behind veteran Jacoby Brissett. Drake got his first start in week 6 against the Houston Texans. The Pats finished the season with a 4-13 record, yet Drake showed promising moments versus the Tennessee Titans in a wild last second touchdown to force overtime.
Drake currently sits atop a star studded race for MVP. According to NFL Analyst Bucky Brooks, The sophomore quarterback is ranked above Jonathan Taylor, and Matthew Stafford. Taylor is projected to put up one of the greatest single seasons of a running back with 1,389 yards and 15 touchdowns through just 10 games. While the veteran Matthew Stafford has catapulted the Rams into a tough playoff contender with 2,557 yards and a 27-2 touchdown to interception rate.
Interviews were conducted with local Patriots fans at Timberlane Regional High school and everyone is on board with Maye. Student Jimmy Pantano says, “He is the best in the league… his ability to run and pass the ball is his biggest strength.” English teacher Kiel Dimeglio was asked what makes Drake Maye successful and he says, “His grit, he does right by his team, and obviously listens to his coach.”
Drake in his second year has already won the NFL.com midseason MVP and brought New England to a 10-2 record, first in the league and second in the ESPN power rankings behind the Los Angeles Rams.
