The Cincinnati Bengals offense is looking shaky after losing their franchise quarterback Joe Burrow to turf toe. During his week two game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Joe Burrow was sacked which caused him to slam his toe into the ground. He had to undergo surgery on his toe, which turned out to be successful. Unfortunately his recovery is going to take 3 months and he may potentially return for week 16. For the extent of his injury, the Bengals started with playing Jake Browning, but have been playing Joe Flacco since week five.
Other big recent injuries were Tyreek Hill, Malik Nabers, Lamar Jackson, and many more key players. These players have been putting up big numbers for the teams. Now they are forced to play back up players and make trades to try and salvage the rest of the season. Common injuries among players in the NFL this year have been turf toe and torn ACL’s.
“Last night, the NFL world held its breath as Tyreek Hill sustained a catastrophic knee injury in Miami’s game vs. the Jets (Midwest Orthopedics at Rush).” He was running out of bounds when he stepped awkwardly causing his injuries. He tore multiple ligaments in his knee including his ACL and doctors are not sure when he will be able to return.
Another player to face an ACL injury was Malik Nabers who is a wide receiver for the New York Giants. Unfortunately for Nabers that wasn’t the only injury he sustained. He was diagnosed with a torn ACL and MCL, torn labrum, and turf toe. These injuries are season ending for him and are a big loss for the Giants.
Lamar Jackson injured his hamstring during week four against the Chiefs. “Same with all the guys that are dealing with different injuries,” Harbaugh said. “I think it’ll be indicative as the week goes along what their status will be going forward.” While he may only be out for a few weeks, the Ravens are struggling to succeed without him.
There are many other recent injuries in the NFL with the 49ers losing many players to injuries. “The rate of injury in NFL players during weeks 1-4 of the 2020-2021 regular seasons was significantly higher than during 3 recent past NFL preseasons and regular seasons (Baker).” The whole league has seen a big increase in the number of injuries and people are trying to figure out why.
