Brain Breaks with Online Learning

Grace Goodro

Through the new experience of online learning it is extremely important to give your brain breaks. Though it is a blessing that we get to continue our educationions we have to learn a new way to learn while learning new material. When we were in elementary school we had recess every day because our brain’s ability to pay attention for an extended period of time isn’t fully developed, in middle school we had a shorter break time because our attention spans had grown. Now as high school students we are getting closer to having fully developed brains, however we are unfortunately not all the way adults yet. American Academy of Pediatrics states: “Recess is a “crucial and necessary component of a child’s development,” and sacrificing it for more academics is counterproductive.” Since we aren’t learning the way that we’re used to our brains can get extremely overwhelmed and overstimulated. We need to be sure to cut our poor brain a little bit of slack and thank them for all the hard work they are doing. Easy ways to thank our brains is taking as many screen breaks as possible. You could also try and put aside a day where you have nothing planned except, sleeping in relaxing and eating comfort food.
