The Artemis II was the first crewed trip to around the moon in over 50 years; they completed a lunar flyby aboard the Orion spacecraft. Their goal is to plan out future crewed lunar missions and landings and to test safety measures. NASA posted an interview with all The crew members and their names are Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist Christina Koch, and Mission Specialist Jeremy Hansen, all astronauts from NASA. It is a 10 day mission they will return by splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. There is an app that you can use to track Orion in real time. NASA wants to see how accurate the app really is. Artemis II will not be the last mission on the moon NASA predicts that there will be Artemis III, IV, and V.
The Artemis I NASA successfully completed an uncrewed test flight of SLS rocket and Orion spacecraft in November of 2022. The mission was testing the launching capabilities of both spacecrafts and all of the technology
The Artemis III is planned to happen in mid 2027. The mission will launch a crew in Orion on top of the SLS rocket. The goal is to test the landing capabilities between the Orion and private commercial spacecraft needed to land on the moon. The Artemis IV will take place in early 2028. After the launch the crew will transfer from the Orion spacecraft to a commercial lunar lander to be able to surface the moon. The Artemis V NASA anticipates launch by late 2028. This mission is when NASA will begin building a base on the moon’s surface. More missions are planned to happen once a year after Artemis V.
