Spooky World is a haunted house located in Litchfield, New Hampshire. This haunted house was just named the second scariest haunted house in the country by a national group who reviews haunted houses called “America Haunts”.
The event has been around since 1991 where it was originally located in Berlin, Massachusetts. It has bounced from a handful of locations since it opened including Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts in 1998 but has been in Litchfield since 2009.
The attraction recently came in at second on the “America Haunts” list for the scariest in the country behind the 13th Gate in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It earned this spot on the list for the serious dedication they put in hiring actors and setting up the walk. Inside of the event more than 120 scare actors are present each night. This is an absurd amount of actors to hire on a nightly basis but pays off as shown by the park’s success.
The event is huge, according to their official website attractions spread across 80 acres of land. There are four attractions provided by Spooky world during the event. There is the mile long haunted hayride where actors in movie grade costumes will jump at you, yell at you, and chase you as you go through the track. There is “Asylum 47” and “The Colony” which are walking haunted houses based on the same idea as the hay ride. The only difference with these is you walk through the attractions on foot instead of being driven around on the back of the hayride. Finally, there is the “Nightmare in 3D” that takes guests through a world of terror with 3D glasses, forcing them to navigate through dreamlike scenes.
On top of these main events, the spooky world offers things like bars, bonfires, axe throwing, and even a carnival. This is a large community event less than 30 minutes from the state capital, and 42 minutes from Timberlane Highschool.
The haunted event has now been in New England for 35 years and is only getting bigger. It has gained national attention after it was listed on the “America Haunts” as the second scariest haunted house in the country. The legacy of the event continues to grow.
The attraction has an overall 4-star rating from 1500 reviews on the google reviews page. The most common theme in the reviews is visitors raving about how well the actors performed, and how exciting the event is. If you are in the New England area during this time of year it is recommended to visit Spooky World.
