The new Super Mario Galaxy movie was released on April 1st 2026. On its first week of release according to Commingsoon.net the movie made $372 million worldwide and earned $190 million just in the U.S. in the first 5 days. According to Nicholas Tan, a writer on Comingsoon.net, “the Super Mario movie is the fifth largest global opening ever for an animated film.
Despite the movie being a massive box office hit, however, the review scores are terribly low for the video game adaptation.” Some believe that the movie was a successful hit while others think that it is a huge money grab and should not have come out.
Critics on rottentomatoes.com have found the movie “stultifyingly(boring) dull” or “deeply annoying”. While general audiences such as families and non critics found the movie “Above Average” and “Enjoyable” as well as “Nostalgic”.
In my personal opinion after watching the movie in theaters, the movie was just as I thought it wasn’t bad but i also feel like the story of the movie was rushed. For example when starr fox was brought into the story and then was bribed to take peach and toad to find rosalina. It just didn’t feel like the game the first time i played it.
I assumed that the movie was going to be mainly for young children that love Mario but also have a nostalgic factor for the parents that used to play the game when they were kids.
