Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. These felony counts relate back to Trump giving hush money to Stormy Daniels.

 

Donald Trump is currently the republican’s number one contender to run against current president, Joe Biden, in the 2024 presidential election. Putting Donald Trump in jail will leave the republican candidate to be replaced. The usual punishment for this crime is up to a year in jail or a 5,000 dollar crime.

 

Donald Trump was suspected of falsifying 34 felony counts of business records in hope of concealing damaging information before his 2016 election. According to news source Fox News, The case is based on $130,000 sent to Stormy Daniels as hush money, $30,000 to a doorman who had claimed Trump had another child, and $150,000 dollars to a former Playboy model Karen McDougal. All payments are being sought as hush money. 

 

Sending Hush money is not against any state law, but Trump has covered these Hush money payments, causing him to falsify business records. According to Fox news, Falsifying business records is a misdemeanor under the New York law, which is punishable by no more than one year in prison. These misdemeanor crimes had then turned into felonies as Trump continued to cover up the falsified business records. Donald Trump is now facing up to 136 years in prison.
