Tiktok had announced on Tuesday March 7th, that they will be opening a feature that allows Tiktok creators to produce “Premium” content. Which is content that is accessed behind a paywall. Tiktok described this feature as “a new way for creators to share their stories, talents and creativity as premium content while further deepening their connection with the TikTok community.” This new feature will allow creators to produce 80 videos up to 20 minutes in length each to their premium collection. Users will be charged a one time payment ranging from $0.99 to $189.99, the price is set by the content creator.

Tiktok is a social media platform where content creators post short videos. The company started in September 2016 by the Chinese company Byte Dance. The social platform blew up in record time. According to news outlet The guardian Tiktok was the most downloaded app in 2022. Tiktok now has over one billion users. TikTok creators can already make 0.02$ to 0.04$ per 1,000 views. Having the ability to add a price tag to content will allow creators to make even more money.

This new Premium content is very similar to other social media services such as onlyfans, a subscription based content platform. This idea of premium content isn’t a new idea, but it has been a very successful idea in the past. Many people using the tiktok platform believe that the premium content will be misused and creators will post inappropriate and adult content. TikTok has reassured this will not happen, as the premium content still must follow the TikTok guidelines.
