On the night of August 30th, authorities started investigating on a bomb threat that was recieved at Boston Children’s Hospital. The threat was made by an anonymous phone caller with false accusations about the connection of transgender care after weeks of harassment and threats.

The allegations started when a video on a Twitter campaign on TikTok made a video targeting the hospital with threats of violence. The account run by a former agent named Chaya Richik, started accusing LGBTQ teachers and criticizing children’s health facilities. As followers began to increase, she moved on to target Boston Children’s Hospital with false accusations and encouraged threats. This would eventually lead to the children’s hospital getting a bomb threat though a phone call.

The call had been made at around 8pm and first responders came to the scene. It was reported that there was no bomb found in the hospital and nobody was hurt. However, staff and patients were forced to evacuate out of the hospital as police shut down all the streets near the hospital. Staff at the hospital opened up about the situation by stating on social media, “We are deeply concerned by these attacks on our clinicians and staff fueled by misinformation and a lack of understanding and respect for our transgender community.”

The bomb threat has still remained under investigation as more threats start to rise. More children’s hospitals have been targeted in other locations such as Omaha, Nebraska, and Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. Staff at the hospital have made it clear that gender-affirming surgical procedures are only qualified for patients that are at least 18 years old. They are also committed to make the hospital a safe and secure place for everyone despite the battle of false information and domestic violence.
