There has been a huge debate going across social media, whether there are more doors or wheels in the world. This debate started to become viral on the social media apps, Tik Tok and Twitter. People have been posting their arguments in favor on whichever side they are on. These videos with hashtags for “wheels vs. doors” and “doors vs. wheels” have 148 million views combined.

This seemed to be a pretty simple debate when Ryan Nixon, a New Zealand resident with a decent amount of followers,  asked the question on a Twitter poll. This poll has reached more than 220,000 responses. However, with the winner of the vote with 53.6% of the votes in favor of wheels, the debate was over. People kept posting their reasoning for either side of the argument.

Although it seems the majority of people think there are way more wheels, the total of each may be closer than we all think. There are many examples of each door or wheel throughout the world. Common arguments for wheels are cars, roller skates, scooters or suitcases. However, some of the arguments on the doors side can make you really think that it can be close. For example, office buildings, schools, and lockers.

To make themselves seem correct in their argument, people are trying to claim that things are wheels or doors when they are really not. So what defines a wheel or a door? A door is “a hinged, sliding, or revolving barrier at the entrance to a building, room, or vehicle, or in the framework of a cupboard.” While a wheel is “a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground.”

Jack Condon states  “ Wheels all the way, because in addition to all the other arguments like cars and trucks, Hot Wheels and Tech Decks produced also contribute a lot to the wheels count .”

On the other hand, Micheal Herchenroder is on the doors side and says “If you think about an apartment, there is a door to enter into the area, typically a door to the bedrooms, doors for the bathrooms, and barely any wheels inside. Then how many rooms in some of the largest apartments and hotels. There are so many doors in one building compared to multiple cars.”

There is no definite answer to this debate because no one would be crazy enough to go all around the world counting each and every door and wheel. Because there will never be an exact answer to this argument this could be debated endlessly online for people just to go back and forth. Even though it could seem silly to argue about wheels and doors, for some people these arguments are better to engage in than heated debates on the internet. The door and wheel voters can come together and agree on their shared humanity, even if they disagree on which side they are on.

So what side are you on? Wheels or doors?
