There are many steps that go into picking the right college for you. You want to make sure that you choose carefully because this is where you are going to be for the next two or four years. First, you have to decide on what type of school you want to go to. There are community colleges that are two years and there are colleges and universities that are four years. You can also take a year off which is called a gap year. Next, you want to figure out what you want to study. Think about what you are interested in and find out if it’s a major at the schools you are looking at. It is totally okay to go in undecided if you don’t know what you want to study yet. After that, you want to think about where you want to live for the next two or four years. If you like places that are warm, you might want to consider going to a school in a state that is always warm. You also might need to consider going to a school that you can afford. If you are interested in financial aid, you can find the FASFA application on the common app. Develop a short list of schools you’re interested in and if you can, go to the campuses for tours to see if you really like it. After you tour and see which schools interest you, you can narrow down your list and apply. If you don’t get into some of the schools you apply to that just means it wasn’t the right place for you. For most schools, the decision deadline is sometime in May, so you have some time. If you have any trouble or have any questions, go to your guidance counselor. That’s what they are there for. Goodluck and don’t stress, there’s a school that’s just right for you.
