*Euphoria is not for young viewers and has very graphic and inappropriate content, which can be triggering*. Euphoria is a show about teenagers who all live different crazy lives that all somehow intertwine with each others. Season 2 of the show brings us so much more detail about why things are the way they are. Starting out with the main character Rue (Zendaya) who suffers from an extreme opioid addiction at just 17 years old. Seeing how bad things got in season 1, we all thought “how much worse could everything get?” We spoke way too soon, considering season 2 takes the things going on in all of these 17 year olds’ lives to a whole other level.

We are only half way through season 2 and there has already been an unbelievable amount disclosed. Cassie gets with her best friend’s abusive ex boyfriend, Cal exposing his dark secret to his family which leads to nothing good, then Rue hitting rock bottom resulting in her possibly getting into deep trouble with awful people, this season holds a lot so far. A Timberlane Senior, Chloe Sauliner also agrees this season has held a lot, “This season keeps you on your toes with constant drama and anxious topics. You absolutely never know what will happen and you always think it can’t get crazier and it does” she says.

A huge controversy this season is do we feel bad for Cassie? Cassie being treated by men as if she is only good for one thing has her brain tricked into believing it. The abuse has left her with a distorted view of love and extreme desperation for it. Even though she knows it is wrong, she finds her definition of love in Nate. This plays a huge role in the plot considering Maddy, Cassie’s best friend, found a tape of Cal and Jules and their night together and took it. Nate has been working his hardest to kiss up to Maddy, because if she finds out about Cassie, she will easily expose the tape which will mess his family up. Maddy did find out in the last episode released, but we have to wait to see what she does for revenge.

That leads me to my next topic, Cal. Cal is a “family man”. He owns a company and supports his family. However, him having to forget about who he really is and move on to marry Nate’s mother after getting her pregnant in highschool knowing he was gay results in his double life. We know that Nate finding all of the tapes as a young child that his dad had created with other men lead to him having the huge amount of issues he has. However, many of us Euphoria lovers suspect that Nate is also gay, but he is so violent towards women and has so many issues because he does not want to admit it to himself. Anyways, seeing Cal destroying himself and his son and not even knowing it by living this way for a whole season, we finally got the relief of him drunkenly admitting it to his family. We are not 100% sure what happens with that situation though, because the last episode we saw, episode 5, focused on how Rue has hit rock bottom.

Rue being the addict she is, she will do absolutely anything to get pills. Which includes agreeing to pay back Laurie (a drug dealer), who has connections with very bad people, for lending her a suitcase with $10,000 worth of drugs in it for Rues plan to become a drug dealer herself. Well, the suitcase goes missing once Jules tells Rues mom she is not sober anymore without understanding that if she does not get the money, her life is in much more danger than just her addiction puts it in. Her mom is trying to take her into rehab so she runs away. She needs the money to give Laurie so she robs a wealthy family. So now not only is she a drug addict, she is a criminal.

Towards the end of episode 5, she ends up in Laurie’s house trying to give her the jewelry and $2,000 dollars she stole but when Laurie won’t accept, we find Laurie saying something questionable. She says “That’s the good part about being a woman Rue, even if you don’t have money, you have something people want.” Well, we can all interpret what she is talking about here. After that statement, we get concerned with what comes next. Laurie undresses Rue and puts her in the bath to get her “cleaned up”. She then goes and gets morphine and we see that she has a lot of pills, after telling Rue she has none. She then injected Rue with morphine. Rue wakes up the next morning in a bed, locked in Laurie’s house with two men also in the house, one with a gun. We will have to wait until next week to see if what we think just happened to Rue really did.

Only 3 major topics from Season 2 were discussed here. There are numerous other factors into this season that make everything all go together. This season is very good at making many completely different situations somehow relate to each other and have an effect on so many different things and lives. Euphoria is overall amazing at portraying and incorporating real life issues and how it affects people. We will have to wait to see how everything turns out for the rest of this season until it’s over, but for now this season has blown everyone’s mind.
