Flannels have been around for a long time but in recent years their popularity has grown big time. Original flannels were made with an original flannel fabric but today many are made from cotton, wool, synthetic fibers, etc. Depending on the type of flannel they can be used for good work shirts or just comfortable attire.

Where did the flannel originate from? Flannels can be dated back all the way to the 17th century in Wales. Farmers would wear these shirts to protect themselves from the outdoor elements. This trend would then be transferred to blue collar workers. These workers would wear them because they were made to be very durable. Today there are still flannels that are durable but other companies have expanded and made flannels more stylish with more comfortable materials.

Hamilton Carhartt is the person you can thank for introducing flannels to the United States. He founded Carhartt in 1889, which was to make strong durable clothing for the working class. The flannel was originally made for working people to wear to protect themselves from the environment. Flannels today are still made for workers but have also transferred over to style trends.

Today flannels have turned into a huge style and they are very common to see people wearing. They are also very easy to find and buy at stores because there are many companies that manufacture flannels with multiple different styles. They come in many materials now and they have been made to be really comfortable as well. They are also very warm and are easy to take on and off. Overall, flannels have come a long way compared to when they were first introduced and are very popular in today’s fashion.
