Whether it is dressing as a zombie, ghost or as your favorite movie character, dressing up for Halloween has been a huge American tradition since the 8th century. Kids get so excited when the time comes around when they get to pick out their very own costume, but what age is too old?

As teenagers go off to college the spirit of Halloween never dwindles. They always dress up in elaborate costumes and go around campus to bring up the spirit. Most students find multiple costumes for the whole weekend of Halloween. I feel as if it is good for these students to still celebrate this tradition to bring back to their childhood memories and what they did back home before moving off to college.

New parents get excited about dressing up their baby for their first Halloween, then tradition begins. As they get older the same excitement grows when they get to pick out their own costume. When the teenage years come around kids wonder if dressing up is getting too old for them. A fellow teen voices his opinion. “ I love dressing up for Halloween, it is a great way for my friends and I to get creative and keep up the fun Halloween spirit,”  says Jack Condon. He is very unsure on what he is going to be for the 2021 Halloween season, but he says “It will be the best one yet.”

As you move through your adult years, most adults think it’s too cheesy to dress up. Most parents say they don’t have the time or the reason to go out in a costume. However, I believe that still participating in dressing up in fun costumes brings them back to their childhood and gives them the chance to feel the excitement of picking out a costume again. Parents of children also can have fun doing a costume with their whole family and go out to trick or treat. Even Mr. Vigars and his family is dressing up this year! “ My family and I are either going to be the characters from the show Bluey or my daughter will be a pup cup from Starbucks and my wife and I will be baristas.”

It is obviously a choice to dress up for Halloween and when you think dressing up is getting “too old”. However, I feel it is believed that dressing up should never be frowned upon because you are showing off your Halloween spirit and having fun while doing it. So this year do not think it would be lame to dress up and go out!
