Topsfield fair opened in 1818.  Since opening they have only closed three times . the first time being in 1918 .  According to the Topsfield Fair in 1918 all agricultural fairs in the state were cancelled due to a worldwide influenza pandemic (Spanish Flu) . Again during 1943-1945 for World War II.  When the fair returned in 1946, it opened to record-breaking attendance. Then again in 2020 for covid -19.
