The amount of trash and debris in the ocean has caused instability to our waters and sea creatures across the globe. The company 4Ocean has discovered a unique approach to removing waste from all waters such as oceans, rivers and coastlines, seven days a week. 4Ocean sells jewelry made up of plastic found in the waters’ waste. The profit is later used to fund their ocean cleanup efforts. The cost of a bracelet is equal to the cost of pulling a single pound out of the ocean. The 4Ocean website states that the cost of a single bracelet is $20.00. Their team consists of hired professional/ full time captains, crews, and 350 bracelet artisans.

“They expand their cleanup operations internationally to help create rewarding jobs and cleaner living conditions in areas heavily impacted by ocean plastic pollution,” 4Ocean website states. Not only do they work on their mission of cleaning Earth’s waters, they help contribute jobs regarding ocean cleanup and jewelry making. This portrays how proactive the company’s actions are by following the “kill two birds with one stone” scenario. Their website presents people with their mission statement of the company while showing the count of 17 million pounds of removed waste they’ve performed over time.

4Ocean has multiple facilities: 1 global headquarters, 6 optional bases, 1 global fulfillment center, 3 storage warehouses, and a plastic lumber facility. Although the company is relatively new, they have a good foundation for the building blocks that make up a successful company. 4Ocean claims, “They launch initiatives that educate people about plastic pollution and empower them to live a more ocean-minded lifestyle.” This quote is an example of how significant this company is when it comes to reaching their goal of clean waters. Cleaning the ocean isn’t the only step to be taken. Educating others in order to prevent the waste from being dumped is a necessary action to take.

This organization has presented the world with an easy and accessible way to take action against the quantity of waste in our hydrosphere. They provide education and take action on important matters regarding our planet. 4Ocean website also declares that Alex Schaulze and Andrew Cooper came up with the general idea of the company,  they were just two surfers who had an idea on a surfing trip to Bali. “4Ocean is as valid as they come and is among the few companies in the world leading the race to remove plastic from the ocean,” states Winnie Mwangi on oceansplasticcleanup.com. This is a great example of how a small idea can change the world.
