Benefits of Owning Pets

There are many benefits that come with owning pets. Whether it is a cat, dog, bunny, or other living creature, there have been studies showing psychological, emotional, and even physical benefits.

Animals provide companionship and fill our hearts with love. They are also known for relieving stress. According to helpguide.org, “Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve your cardiovascular health. Perhaps most importantly, though, a pet can add real joy and unconditional love to your life”. Pets are great companions.

Pets can be beneficial, especially for children and older adults. According to helpguide.org, “Caring for an animal can help children grow up more secure and active. Pets also provide valuable companionship for older adults”. Responsibility is an important part of growing up that owning a pet can teach children and young adults.

On the other hand, pets are a commitment that can have a lot of needs. According to Pethelpful.com, “ Pets are entirely dependent upon their owners and can be incredibly high maintenance. It really does not matter whether you own a dog or a fish, they all demand time-consuming work on the part of the owner. Most pets need to be walked or exercised on a regular basis and they all need to be fed, loved and have their habitat cleaned”. If someone is not willing to put in the time and effort to care for a pet, that is not a responsibility they should take on.

In conclusion, pets have many benefits including companionship and improving physical and mental health. Pets fill our hearts with love and relieve stress. However, if you do not have the time or are not willing to put in the effort your pet needs, owning a pet is not a good idea as it is not fair to the animal.
