NBA Season Start Takeaway

The NBA has had an interesting beginning to its 2021 season considering it has started late and certain covid-19 cases have already taken their toll on certain NBA players. As of January 10th, all NBA teams have played a total of ten to fourteen games and most players have had contact with the virus. The NBA has seen a slow start and many players seem to be fatigued and not performing to their highest abilities. Many believe that this is due to last season’s delay catching up to them.

Other teams however, such as the Golden State Warriors and the Brooklyn Nets have seen significant success and improvement from last year.  The Warriors for example haven’t played in nearly a year and have well rested players that are excited to play and finally compete again. Stephen Curry in particular; Warriors’ point guard, has not seen a game in well over a year due to an injury early in the 2020 season.  Steph must have been restless and excited to play considering he has already broken his career high points in a game. Steve Aschburner, an NBA analyst says “Curry went Currazy in the second of consecutive games against Portland Trail Blazers, scoring 62 points to remind the basketball world that he’s still the league’s best point guard and one of its most dazzling scorers ever.”

This season has had a lot of unexpected situations, but one thing for sure that most people knew would happen, is the spread of Covid 19.  Already over ten games have been canceled due to the shortage of players and the NBA’s Covid-19 protocol for exposure to the virus.  One team in particular, the Boston Celtics, had only six players available as of January 11th.  The virus without a doubt will take a toll on the NBA’s flow in the close future and will disturb chemistry and rhythm among teams.  Expect to see new players stepping up and underrated teams winning more games with the NBA’s inconsistency. All in all, the NBA season start has been interesting to watch, and it has only been a few weeks.
