How to Push Through Senioritis

Jordan Christian

Senioritis: a nickname to describe the lack of motivation and effort for seniors who are in the final stretch of high school. Senioritis is shown in many ways, such as tardies, absences, and procrastination. Every student is different and can experience this in a different way. The most common trait is the lack of motivation and a loss of interest in studies..

Abby Tincher, an academic advisor for SNHU, blames senioritis for the lack of motivation and the ability to slack off. For some, knowing that the end of school is near, some projects are neglected and procrastination takes over. Tincher recommends students “keep a positive attitude through the end and keep reminding yourself of your end goal.” For many seniors at Timberlane, graduation is the end goal. There are other opportunities to look forward to if Covid-19 is controlled by June, such as prom and the senior cruise.

With Covid-19 affecting the senior activities, Sarah Cook, a senior here at Timberlane, is definitely feeling the effects of senioritis this year. “I know I’m definitely starting to get lazy with my work. It’s just hard to push through all the hard parts of the year with little to look forward to.”

Preventing yourself from procrastinating is very important. Without any willpower to do projects, it can be hard to stay on top of everything. Establishing a schedule for yourself can help manage different classes and free up more relaxation time that was not available before.
