Local Businesses Hurt by Covid

Tyler Charest

The pandemic strikes again and hits hard. restaurants and schools are shutting down again. Over the past couple weeks, nearby restaurants and schools have been closing. Just last week Salem highschool shut down for two weeks and will be returning the 17th due to the amount of nurses that got the virus. Pinkerton high school is shut down until next year as well as Exeter is only doing special education.Through the next few weeks over this holiday season you can expect more restaurants and schools to close.

The restaurant Carriage Towne in Kingston NH and also Mr.Mikes in Haverhill MA has been shut down due to covid. Mr.Mikes has decided to shut down until the end of covid which  they state on their facebook. Carriage Towne on the other hand is just shut down for 2 weeks. My cousin who works at Carriage Towne said that almost half of the work at the restaurant came down with covid.

I have also talked to the cook at Tuckaway Tavern who also owns a breakfast restaurant and a burger joint. He said that covid will hurt the restaurant owners who are not prepared for a shut down. His restaurants have been shut down, and he already had a game plan to make sure that nothing happened to the restaurants like food going bad or the virus spreading.

Over the weekend my mom talked to a Salem student and he stated “When our school shut down everyone was in a panic. Some of us are doing better than others at online but we are all starting to get the hang of it.” Luckily the school says that they are going back to school on december 17th. They are hoping they are back for good.

Over the next few weeks there will be more restaurants and schools closing. Because of the holiday season there will be more interactions with family and friends. I believe that after the holiday season restaurants and schools will start to re-open slowly. Until then restaurants and schools will be shutting down.
