Schitt’s Creek

Picture this: you are sitting on the couch scrolling through shows on Netflix wondering what to watch next, when you reach a show called Schitt’s Creek. You begin watching and your world is transformed. From the witty catch phrases, to the deep lessons learned, this show will definitely take you by surprise.

After losing all their money, a rich and snobby family, The Rose’s, are left with one asset to their name, a town named Schitt’s Creek that the father bought for the son as a joke many years prior. Forced to live in this town in a run down motel, the family must learn to survive in their situation. Parents Johnny and Moira, their daughter Alexis, and son David, must push forward and along the way, they create many long lasting and unexpected friendships with the townspeople. Some of these friends include the mayor’s family Rolan and Jocelyn Schitt, the cafe waitress Twyla Sands, and the motel worker Stevie Budd.

During the progression of the show, you are able to see the growth of each character and fall in love with their unique and hilarious personalities. “I have never laughed so hard from watching a show. It’s a show you can never get sick of and you just want to watch more episodes. If I ever need a laugh I just put this show on.” explained Timberlane student, Alida Bates. From accepting others’ sexuality to understanding the true meaning of family, you will be put through a rollercoaster of emotions that will leave you using up all the tissues or falling off your chair laughing.

Schitt’s Creek contains familiar faces of actors Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara who star as the parents, Johnny and Moira, in the show. Levy has starred in countless movies including Cheaper By the Dozen 2 and the American Pie series. O’Hara is well known for her appearances in numerous films, such as the first and second Home Alone, BeetleJuice, and has voiced many parts in children’s movies. These two actors have worked together before on films like A Mighty Wind, Over the Hedge, and Best in Show.

Created by father and son duo, Eugene and David Levy, Schitt’s Creek won nine Emmy Awards in 2020 “breaking the Emmys record for most wins in a single season for a comedy”, according to bbc.com. The show was aired on CBC television from January 13, 2015 until April 7, 2020. Containing 80 episodes and six amazing seasons, Schitt’s Creek is available to watch on Netflix as well.

Schitt’s Creek is a must watch show that will definitely make you wish for another season. I dare you to watch this and not get hooked by the end of the first episode. Personally, this was an addictive show that has quotes made their way into our vocabulary and whose characters made their way into our hearts.
