The Acai bowl has been a trend that’s been going around for a couple of years. It has been around since the 1980s, but for some reason, my generation was introduced to it only a couple of years ago. After that, it was a trend that went around everyone’s Snapchat and Instagram stories.

This colorful sweet tasting smoothie bowl is a great meal that people enjoy because it is considered healthy. There are so many ways you can get creative with this bowl by customizing it however, it might vary at different acai places. For example, you can decide what you want your base to taste like. A generic acai bowl has a base with acai berries, bananas, and other fruit with almond milk. However, there are other options at different places that do something different like a tropical base with pineapple, peaches, and orange juice as the liquid. Lastly, you can customize your toppings and it can vary from fruits, granola, dried fruit flakes, berries, peanut butter, and chocolate chips.

To get more information on other acai spots, I asked students at Timberlane Regional High School where their favorite acai joint is.

Troys

Not too far from our district, there is an acai place called Troys Fresh Kitchen and Juice Bar in Londonderry, NH. A senior who is also in Mr. Vigars’ journalism class said, “I give this acai place a 10/10 because it is so good and comes in a good size bowl”. Another student Emma Antkowiak also recommended Troys. Seems like I might have to try one of their bowls out.

Triple Elm

There are different textures in acai bowls and some people prefer some over others. A student, Katie Loneragain who is also a senior said, “I recommend Triple Elm located in Sandown, NH because of the consistency. They have good topping options as well as the amount of acai”. More students also agree like Lena Bonanno and Kerry Gannon. They say the prices are very reasonable since most acai bowls are pricey.

Thrive

Down the street from Triple Elm is where Thrive is located in Hampstead, NH. I have been there and it was the first acai bowl I tried. After trying others I did not like the texture of Thrive and preferred others. However, some people disagree. Student Maggie McCormick said, “ I like Thrive. The acai is less frozen and more fruity than most places and they are bigger!”

The Secret Spot

Most acai places are open year-round except for one I know of that is opened in the summer only. The Secret Spot is near the Hampton Wall in Hampton, NH. I would rate this acai place a 10/10 and is on my top 3 favorites. A past student who is now studying a UNH, Julia Tully said, “I love Secret Spot because it is not mushy like yogurt and almost has a consistency like a sherbet”. Juniors Taylor Dionne, Mario Cioto, and past student Elizabeth McIntyre also enjoy the textures.

Now that you have all of these places that people have tried and rated, go out and enjoy a bowl of acai! I for one am going to make some pit-stops!
