How to Roast a Turkey

Eating turkey is one of the things that many people do during the year. The most known day is on Thanksgiving. Although most people just buy it at the grocery store, how many people actually know how to roast a turkey? It can be very important to know how to roast a turkey because when holidays come around you can have the upper hand over others in culinary arts. People will be impressed and can spark conversation with family and friends by your unsuspecting turkey roasting skills.
Turkey roasting can be thought of as complicated when in reality it isn’t as bad as it looks. On the Food Network website, there is a wonderful cook named Ina Garten that gives an easy to follow recipe on a good way to roast a turkey. She keeps it simple with ingredients such as onion, butter, garlic and lemon. This recipe was given a 4.8 star review by 265 people.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Melt butter in a saucepan. Add lemon zest and the juice of the lemon along with 1 teaspoon of thyme leaves to the butter mixture and set aside.
- Remove giblets from the turkey and wash the turkey inside and out. Remove excess fat and pin feathers and pat outside dry. Put the turkey in a large roasting pan. Liberally salt and pepper the inside of the turkey cavity. Stuff cavity with a bunch of thyme, halved lemon, quartered onion and the garlic. Brush outside of turkey with the butter mixture and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Tie legs together with string and tuck wing tips under the body of the turkey.
- Roast the turkey for about 2 ½ hours or until the juices run clear when you cut between the leg and thigh. Remove turkey from the pan and place onto a cutting board and cover with foil for 20 minutes.
- Slice Turkey and serve
