On March 7th, 2026, Timberlane Project Hope will host their annual strut for a cure fashion show. This show is the biggest fundraising event for Project Hope every year. According to Brooke Langlois, Project Hope student leader, the show raises over 10,000 dollars annually, with the revenue being donated to families in the community impacted by cancer.
During the show, members of Project Hope showcase their creativity to match the themes as they strut down the runway. The TRHS Dance Team never fails to showcase an emotionally captivating piece. The performance is typically followed by a guest speaker that discusses the impact of cancer on their life. The guest speaker is a student or adult within the community that is speaking for a loved one that is battling cancer or who lost their fight. They also might be a cancer survivor themself.
Project Hope will have numerous raffle baskets out during the show. They also have silent auction items. One of the two big items in the silent auction will be a 85 inch Roku TV donated by Walmart, according to Brooke Langlois. They are still waiting on a donation for the second auction item.
All of the auction items and raffle baskets displayed at the show are donated from kind-hearted businesses in the community, sharing the common desire to join the fight against cancer. Members of Project Hope annually visit these various businesses in hopes to receive donations.
Due to the large amount of donations Project Hope receives annually, all donations are collected early to be sure project hope is fully prepared when it comes showtime. Some businesses will donate raffle baskets. Others will donate items or money that can be used to make raffle baskets. Lila Fitzgerald, leader of the Donations Committee, is pleased to report strong progress towards fundraising goals. “We just recently had the deadline for all donations to be turned in, so now we can take what we have received and turn them into the raffle baskets which are a huge money maker for the organization.”
The raffle baskets are always a big hit. Community members that come to the show love to come in and look at all of the items. These raffle baskets always bring in the most profit to the organization. Everyone at the show loves to come get a chance to win a basket. Bella Johnson, a Project Hope member and model, said, “I am excited about the raffle baskets and all of the different prizes available to win.” Everyone loves the chance to win raffles, and when there are so many baskets to win, it makes people want to enter the raffles more.
This year, the theme for the show is Hollywood. The walks this year include action and adventure, comedy, chick flicks, formal, the leader walk, Disney and Pixar, and fantasy movies. All of the models are very excited for this theme. Bella Johnson also said, “I am excited about getting the opportunity to be a model again this year for Strut for a Cure. Being a part of an organization that raises money for a good cause, especially locally, is something I love about being at Timberlane.” The models always have so much fun being a part of something so impactful.
This show takes a lot of work from the members. Since the show happens in the school, the members have to work hard the night before and day of the show to set everything up. It takes a lot of planning from the design committee. Brooke Langlois said, “design and advertising will have numerous meetings to come up with specific design details that we want to see. Project Hope wants to make sure that members’ voices are heard when it comes to designing the show, we really want to hear what the members want to see.”
Project Hope members, staff, and people in the community look forward to the event every year. Although the show is a lot of work, members are always ready to put the work in because of how much the show means to everyone. Strut for a Cure is a very successful event that helps the community in such an impactful way. It is always amazing to see the community come out to support and be a part of something so meaningful.
