Timberlane Regional High School. How has the phone ban affected people in school? A series of the same questions were asked to multiple people in the school varying all ages from Freshmen to staff in the District.
Three questions were asked: “What’s something positive about the phone ban?”, ” What’s something negative about the phone ban?”, and “Has this affected you in school in any way?” There were various answers going from disliking the phone ban to saying it’s not the worst.
Going into the question “What’s something positive about the phone ban?” The most recurring answer was being able to focus more in class, being more social, and less drama throughout the school day. A teacher was interviewed and claimed “students are performing much better in school.” Two teachers talked about how there was less drama during the day, and the last teacher said “There is more student-teacher interaction during the day.”
Next we went around and interviewed Seniors and Juniors about the phone ban. We felt that they would be impacted more due to most of the students having been able to have their phones in school for the past 2 to 3 years in the high school. As for sophomores and freshmen we felt that they would be impacted less, because they were not allowed to have their phones all throughout middle school.
During our interviews we interviewed 14 seniors and juniors, and an overview is this is a personal preference for most, because some people have taken this phone ban more personally than others. One of our most common answers about something positive was “people are more focused” then students said “talk to people” indicating this phone ban is pushing us to be more social. Then we asked what’s something negative, and has this impacted you. A lot of people answered that a negative about the phone ban was communication, and some felt more deeply in this like this one individual who said “there is no clash royal” and this phone ban has affected every senior and junior in one way or another.
We also interviewed 17 Sophomores and Freshmen in total. They are not as used to having their phones on them in school as much. Some of our responses was more that they were okay with the phone ban because it helps them focus. But then some were more on the side of “This is the worst thing that could possibly happen” response.
The phone ban affects more opinion based on how an individual feels about it. But for everyone in the schools they have email to communicate with their families, but we will see where this leads.
