On Thursday, August 21, a New Hampshire woman shot and killed her children and her husband. Emily shot her children with just one gunshot and her husband Ryan Long was killed with multiple gunshots.There was a third child found in the house after the murder unharmed and untouched. The husband, Ryan Long, was diagnosed with brain cancer before he was shot and killed. Emily Long was 34 years old and after murdering her whole family she attempted suicide and was successful.
The motive on why Emily did this is still under investigation . There has been no update about this, all investigators know is that Emily Long was stealing money. Emily Long posted about her husband’s diagnosis on TikTok but after the murder she went private. The Attorney General said there were several witnesses that had reported Ryan Long’s disease but nothing was done for it. There also was nothing put into medical records about Ryan Long’s brain cancer. News articles are now stating that people should stop questioning and there is more than one reason and motive on why Emily did this.
In August, an NBC news article stated, “while investigators are becoming aware of various concerns/issues ongoing in the household at the time of the event in question, people should avoid speculating that this event was caused by a single reason or stressor,” Emily Long worked at Wing-Itz a chicken wing chain in New Hampshire. There was a complaint accusing her of theft that was filed to the police seven days before the murder and suicide. Derek Fisher, the owner of Wing-Itz ,was suspected of embezzling about $660,000 from the business in January 2023. Derek wanted to meet with Emily Long but she declined that offer and that was the last he heard from her. Most believe that because she embezzled money she chose to bring her family down with herself.
According to NBC news, investigators released the autopsy results confirming that the deaths of the children and father were homicides. Officials did confirm that the children had a single gunshot wound to the head. They also confirmed that Ryan Long died from multiple gunshot wounds. In addition to this there were autopsy results that showed Emily Long died of a single gunshot wound to the head; her death was ruled suicide.
Tara Laventure had been friends with Ryan for 35 years and was interviewed on WMUR and discussed that Ryan’s life long goal was to have a family. He wanted to be around his kids as much as possible and even coached his son’s hockey team. Laventure said, “Everyone in the world should know just what an amazing and outstanding person he is. Was.”
Before the deaths, Emily Long posted videos on Tik Tok where she spoke openly about her struggles with mental illness and ways to support her children, according to WMUR. Many were blindsided by this death and one of the hardest parts was not being able to say goodbye to the father and children.
