The recent success for the Timberlane boys soccer team has not been best after facing another tough loss against Pembroke on Monday, September 15th, to make their record 1-4. We interviewed the captains to get their thoughts for the season.
“We have a lot of new faces on the team. We had a lot of seniors last year, so it’s a lot of guys’ first time playing at the varsity level,” said Captain Matt Cairns in response to the question, “What things have changed since last year?”
A common goal from the captains is to make it to the playoffs for the second year in a row. Last year was a breakthrough for the team after a rough stretch of years not making it to the playoffs. They hope to continue the trend and even do better than last year.
Captain Landon Petry was asked, “How do you plan on achieving this goal?” He said, “I plan on achieving these goals by pushing myself and my team in practice every day so it will translate to the field. I will lead by example in every practice and every game.”
“The first couple of games was an eye-opener for the team,” said Captain Cole Rego. “I think we could work on our communication on the field and build more chemistry throughout our players. That is something the team has struggled with a lot in the past.”
All the captains are in agreement that improvements need to be made in practice and in games if they want to continue on the success they had last year.
The question for the captains was how do they plan on leading the team to success this year.
Captain Jude Seager said “I want to keep the team positive and improve our work ethic during practice. I believe that if we work harder, we will see lots of improvement for the year.”
The Timberlane boys soccer has not faced a lot of success in the season yet but the captains have good ideas and strategies to finish off the rest of their last year of high school soccer well.
