The 2025 season for the Boston Red Sox has been a roller coaster of emotions. A once dominant, highscoring offense has been overshadowed by the injuries of stars and a lackluster bullpen.
When asked about the injury of Roman Anthony, Red Sox Superfan Alex Horgan stated, “Roman Anthony is a huge blow as he is our best player currently, but the rest of the team has done a great job in stepping up. Hopefully it will carry through.” The young superstar for Boston was a fan favorite and in the running for AL Rookie of the year. However, since his absence the Red Sox have remained competitive with an 11-11 record.
Another downfall of the team has been the rotation. Free Agency signings and callups were made in an attempt to fix this problem. The three headed monster in the pitching bullpen, in Crochet, Bello, and Giolitto has guided the Red Sox into playoff contention. In recent weeks, another promising rookie has been added in Connelly Early.
Red Sox fan Tyler Fitzpatrick said, “He does seem very promising, to have your MLB debut have 5 scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts. There have only been like 5 people to do that and joining the names of Roger Clemens you have to be pretty talented.”
The biggest loss for the Sox has been the loss of the star slugger, Wilyer Abreu. On August 17th, Abreu suffered a right calf strain and has been sidelined ever since. To begin the season, Wilyer looked like a strong candidate for the MVP and looked to lead his team into playoff contention.
Along his side was the former All-Star Rafael Devers, a cornerstone piece to the world series title in 2018. Devers was traded early in the year in order to freshen up the locker room as he brought negativity. Red Sox legend Johnathan Papelbon said Devers was a “Cancer” in the locker room.
With their absences, the Red Sox have found solid bench depth in sluggers, Romy Gonzales and Abraham Toro. The Sox look to make a late push into contenders for the world title.
