Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was stabbed on a train In Charlotte, NC on August 22 by a man with an extensive criminal history.
Iryna was sitting on the late night blue line train when she got stabbed from behind by a man named Decarlos Brown. Decarlos Brown has a criminal history of armed robbery, Felony larceny, and Breaking and entering according to CNN.
Every passenger on the train was absorbed in their phones including Iryna. She was sitting in an empty row in front of a man in a red sweatshirt. The train security camera caught the man taking out a knife and he waited a beat then swung his arm over his head and fatally wounded Iryna Zarutska. When CNN asked about the situation, Decarlo’s sister Tracey told the reporter, “I talked to him a few hours before the stabbing and he didn’t look like himself. He was unable to hold a simple conversation.”
Iryna died on the train before she was able to get any help from the passengers and first responders. Passengers tried to help her but they couldn’t do anything because she was already gone. Decarlos Brown was charged with first degree murder for the death of Iryna Zarutska.
