As I get closer to the end of high school, I’ve been thinking a lot about everything that’s happened over the past few years. I want to take the time to thank all my teachers, coaches and people that may have helped me along the way over these four years.
It’s easy to overlook just how much work goes into being a teacher. From planning lessons, grading late into the night, and answering our random questions that make no sense, to putting up with our half asleep faces in early morning classes. Even when it doesn’t seem like we’re paying attention, I promise some part of us is. Whether it’s the way you get excited about your subject, or how you check in when someone seems off.
The ones that stick with me most, are the ones you may not think of… like the way a teacher remembers your name after only one week. That time someone brought donuts on a random Friday. Or how you leave your doors open at lunch so students have a place to go. High school isn’t always easy, and sometimes it feels overwhelming, but it’s these small acts of kindness and understanding that make a huge difference.
I think we spend so much time focusing on big tests, grades, or what’s next after high school, that we forget to appreciate the moments that are happening right now. Like laughing with friends in the hallway, getting into deep conversations in class, or realizing that you actually learned something without even noticing. Those small moments make high school what it is and so do the people in it.
Thank you for showing up every day, even when it’s hard. For believing in us, even when we’re figuring out how to believe in ourselves. And for all the things you do that go unnoticed. We notice them more than you think.
Sincerely,
Liam Kelley
