Timberlane Regional High School had never had a talented Girls Basketball program. That was until big changes were made involving coaching staff and player mentality. The program turned up the notch and turned the basketball program around through strong efforts. The need to win was something the whole team felt. This feeling led the team to success last year in the 2023- 2024 season. Pushing through hard practices, having a strong mental state, and working hard each and every day brought the team to the first round of playoffs as the 14th seed. The game ended in a loss to third seed Pembroke in a tough battle 51-41. The girls set the tone that Timberlane was only on the rise. This strong season brought the girls into Division 1.
Many people thought that the team was just another easy win and new face in D1. This was not the case. They came ready to play and never gave up. While the regular season is still going on, the girls recently clinched their playoff spot and sit at a 9-6 record with three games remaining. When asked what challenges the team will face in playoffs, Senior Captain Ella Lampron says, “I think the teams will press us a lot and we’ll have to handle it very well. We have to learn to handle it better.” The team is not perfect and has much to work on, but they have had some big wins in this regular season. They have won some games that most people thought they would lose, rallying themselves out of a 20 point deficit a few times. The team never gives up and works extremely hard, particularly on defense, making the games fun to watch.
Audience attendance has gone up substantially this year with more students and parents coming to support the Owls. Timberlane Girls Basketball fans Trevor Rego and Addison Conlan express, “they have a lot of passion when they play, and you can see it on the court” and “watching the girls put their very best onto the court is awesome to watch.” This new spike in attendance keeps the girls motivated, as Senior Captain, Ella Lampron says, “The support of the community fuels my game and hypes me up.” This is just the beginning of the future of Girls Basketball here at Timberlane. Other teams are beginning to fear the Owls and can see that they are not going to be an easy first round exit. If the girls play to their full potential, Timberlane Girls basketball could have a chance at making a real statement in their first year in Division 1.
