The Red Sox are ready to advance in the offseason and make a jump toward playoff contention. Looking ahead to a key bounce-back season in 2025 for the Red sox Despite a 81-81 record, the Red Sox managed to finish in third place as an AL East division team with one of the stiffest competitions possible and there are still reasons for optimism among both fans and analysts. The Red Sox will work all offseason and post season to improve their roster size and capability to improve their chances.
They are anchored by star first baseman Triston Casas, one of the keys dating back to September. With a .254 batting average, 25 home runs, and 89 RBIs Casas has already established himself as one the franchise’s offensive leaders. Batting behind him, outfielder Masataka Yoshida was a maniac when it came to hitting. In 2024, he hit .302 with a strong on-base this season. That established a strong floor of expectations for both players to build off in 2025 and will set high expectations for the team. A CBS News reporter states, “Kenley Jansen has been outstanding at the backend as well, with 19 saves in his 20 opportunities to go with a 2.16 ERA and 1.080 WHIP. The 3.67 ERA by Boston relievers this season is good for 11th best in MLB.”(Geagan, 2024). This shows that many people have high hopes and faith for the future of the Red Sox dynasty.
Still, there is some light at the end of that tunnel with Nick Pevetta returning for another year and being a veteran in the clubhouse, his return will stabilize the pitching staff and some combination of Bello, Houck or another one of their up-and-coming arms further fortifies it with fresh blood and young legs then that’ll all be just what Red Sox pitchers needed. A Sports Illustrated reporter claims “Priester has since improved, and he came into his own during September. Priester compiled a 2.45 ERA and 24 strikeouts in the month through 18 1/3 innings pitched, not to mention an impressive .197 BAA.”(Keane, 2024). That model has worked for other rebuilding teams, and the front office intends to pursue a veteran starting pitcher this offseason as well.
Also interestingly being built up is the organization’s use of analytics, led in part by GM Alex Cora with an emphasis on player development throughout the Red Sox system. He also outlined how his tenure hopes to mirror the efficient practices of top postseason contenders, using data engineering projects to increase player performance and identify necessary free agents. The good news is they have a stocked farm system as well.
The Red Sox are looking to improve their game and get the franchise back to where it once was. With the Red Sox looking to be on the rise they will look to hold this prowess and assure that they are contenders for years to come. With the new additions of a couple new pitchers one being Kutter Crawford the Red Sox pitching staff is also looking to become one of the best in the league.
