Halloween is today and a huge part of Halloween is… You guessed it, candy!
People around the world of all ages roam the streets on this very night every year looking for tasty treats to fill their bags with. Candy on Halloween has been a tradition since the 1920s, and ever since then, new candies have come and gone as the popular trends have changed over time. The website Forbes ranked the top 10 Halloween candies in the world. Using these rankings, we placed these 10 candies in a poll and asked Timberlane students and faculty to pick their favorite Halloween candy on the list.
According to the data, 32.6% of the participants picked Reese’s peanut butter cups as their favorite candy. This isn’t so surprising as the combination of milk chocolate and peanut butter is hard to compete with. Timberlane student Logan Brandano stated “I love that they have many new varieties and kinds of Reese’s, I also like that they always make seasonal options…You can never go wrong with chocolate and peanut butter”. Although Reese’s peanut butter cups had the highest amount of votes, Hot tamales came in at a close second with 23.9% votes. These spicy and cinnamon chewy candies have been around since the 1950s and have held strong through the years! Following hot tamales are skittles with 12.1%, Sour patch kids with 10.9%, and Twix with 10%. Skittles are multicolored lentil-shaped candies with the whole rainbow of flavors! Sour patch kids are sour gummies that are sour at first and sweet after. Twix is a strong chocolate with an inside of caramel shortbread biscuit. In last place of the competition came snickers. Snickers are mini chocolate candies consisting of nougat topped with caramel and peanuts. Not a lot of people were a fan of snickers! Timberlane student Ava Stewart stated “I feel like snickers are way too common when it comes to getting them on Halloween, I always end up with more than I actually want”.
Students and faculty all around Timberlane have mixed opinions on what the best Halloween candy is. Timberlane business teacher Mrs. Takesian stated “I feel like the older people are going to be more fond of the classic chocolate, and the younger people are going to enjoy the candies/gummies more”. At the end of the day, it always comes down to personal preference. Hopefully everyone at Timberlane receives the candy they want tonight! Happy Halloween to all.
