The Timberlane Boys Soccer team is off to a phenomenal start this year, already surpassing their win total from last year. We interviewed some of the key players as well as some big fans of the team on their outlook on the team this year.
A lot of players have mentioned communication and team chemistry as one of the biggest reasons for the team’s success this year. Senior captain Andrew Pantano said “As a group we all have really good chemistry right now.” Junior midfielder Landon Petry agreed that since he’s been in the program “team chemistry has gone up every year.” Teacher Mrs. Stevens went to the game against Dover and also said that communication was a huge part in the teams first win of the season. She said, “one of the biggest things that I saw was the communication on the field, especially from the goalie Nick DiNapoli in that game.” Sophomore defender Gaven Dubois said that “we all just work together this year and play as a team.” Junior defender Cole Rego said that “the team put in a lot of work in the off season and play as a team and have better chemistry.” Freshman Maximus Losciuto said “that this year communication has been a huge change for the program.” The team as a whole and it’s supporters think that the chemistry and communication have helped the team with their turnaround this season.
After every sports season, rumors start to speculate about how the team will combat with the senior class leaving. The rumors did not stop with Timberlane soccer, as there were many question marks around the loss of their strong senior class and how they would bounce back from this. These question marks did not concern the Owls. They had many new stars emerging to play different roles to benefit the team. Freshman Max Losciuto was a standout and has been a trademark to this team. Sophomore Gaven Dubois said “Max Losciuto is a stud, always grinding”. These encouraging words by teammates will only benefit his confidence as he continues to play. When we asked Max about his goals for the season, he answered humbly, “I want to win the championship, and getting a couple goals in the back of the net wouldn’t hurt. Senior Captain Andrew Pantano says “We have been showing him what Timberlane soccer truly is,” implying that all the guys have consistently been behind new freshmen helping them improve.
When we weigh everything said about what changed this year, we had one reason that stood out most: mentality, Senior Captain Anderson Petry says “The biggest thing that changed is our dedication and mentality, making every hour of practice count.” Anderson is instilling this mentality into the youth for them to carry on and continue to grow. The biggest mentality boost has been Senior Captain Andrew Pantano, who famously said “We are trying to literally bury the other team every week.” When we heard Andrew say this although we were shocked we understood that it’s the reason they are winning. They have a never quit mentality and a no giving up mindset no matter who they play or how good they may seem
The owls are off to a strong start this year and hope to keep it up and make a run deep into the New Hampshire Division one Playoffs this year.
