A.J Befumo(48) and his son, Eric (13), better known as the viral “Cosco Guys,” have had an instantaneous gain of followers on social media after a video of theirs went viral.
This father and son duo uploaded a video to the social media app Tik Tok on March 1st, 2024. The video shows them going around the store and talking about things that they do at Costco as “Costco Guys,” such as trying out the furniture, shopping while eating food from the food court, etc.
Shortly after the video was uploaded it went viral, gathering millions of views, likes, shares and followers within hours. This video is now recognizable to many users that have recently used Tik Tok.
We spoke to A.J. [Befumo] a few times, he told us to send him an email for direct contact, and with that, we tried to schedule an interview with him. Unfortunately, A.J. and his manager said September looked pretty busy for them, despite being interested in doing the interview with us. We were left off on a cliffhanger, They told us that If anything opened up, they’d take the interview.
How did AJ and Eric affect Costco? In their videos, they often review the food from the Costco food court. After doing this, they rate their food on what they call the “Boom” or “Doom” meter, giving five “booms” when the food is amazing, or giving a “doom” when the food is not so great. With these influential reviews, many people are going out of their way to try this food, bringing new customers to the store.
In a recent survey, 75.6% of people said that they have heard of the “Cosco guys”. 68.9% of people stated that the videos have made them want to try food from Costco’s food court.
