There is a major controversy stemming from whip cream flavoring. The name of this flavoring is called Galaxy Gas, and it has affected many teens within the United States. If used normally this gas is not dangerous but, when used incorrectly, it can be extremely harmful. Inhaling Galaxy Gas can kill brain cells, affect memory and affect coordination. Inhaling too much Galaxy gas can lead to death.
Purchasing this gas for cooking is completely legal, making it accessible for people to do harm to themselves. There’s a lot of different reasons this substance has been targeted towards trapping the younger generations in an addiction that could last them a life time. This gas has the same composition as medical grade laughing gas. This means that the same elements used in laughing gas are used here. Teens with no experience or requirement are using it which can affect their short term and long term health for the worse.
We took a poll based off of people that go to Timberlane Regional High School. The questions included:
- Do you know what Galaxy Gas is?
- Do you know what the effects of Galaxy Gas are?
- (Optional) Have you or have you met somebody who has tried Galaxy Gas?
- How dangerous would you say Galaxy Gas is? (Scale of 1-10)
The survey that we ran showed that most people do not know someone who has tried it themselves but, 1 in 6 kids knows someone who has had some sort of experience with it We also asked them to rate the dangers of Galaxy Gas on a one through ten scale. The most popular answer was ten, showing that most teens do know the dangers of Galaxy Gas and are aware of how bad the effects can be. We interviewed a local student at Timberlane Regional High School. Frankie Carrasquillo, a starting sophomore running back for the school football team, stated “ Yes I do know what Galaxy Gas is and I believe I know what is in it but, I do not know how accessible it is to get in the U.S.” This is dangerous as people who do not know the side effects for the long term may not be educated enough about the subject, which could lead to poor judgment. People need to learn how dangerous this is and become aware along with distancing themselves from this.
