Dear Senator,
My name is Avery Decourcey, I’m 16 years old and from Sandown. I’m writing to you today to inform you about an issue that is really important to me, and how you can help to solve this problem. The issue is the lack of regulation and guidelines for the ingredients used in cosmetic products.
Many toxic chemicals are used in these products, and sold on the shelf. Fragrances, parabens, and triclosan are just some examples of the toxic ingredients that are used in cosmetics. They may be fine for someone in small doses, but when people are wearing makeup everyday, it could harm them. Toxic chemicals being absorbed into the skin can be linked to cancer, skin issues, and issues in pregnancy.
What I think you could do to help solve this issue is make laws to regulate the ingredients. The law could require a certain amount of testing of the ingredients to make sure that they’re safe for the future with regular use. The companies would need to have an in-depth list of every ingredient that’s used.
I hope you find this issue as important as I do, and take the steps necessary to make a change in the cosmetic industry. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Avery Decourcey
