The Opioid and Drug crisis is the biggest crisis that America is facing today. Drugs are being laced with fentanyl and leading to horrific overdose deaths. The difference between drugs and fentanyl is that fentanyl is a highly infused opioid prescribed for people that have ongoing pain. From innocent kids getting into drugs, to adults wrongfully taking drugs the opioid crisis does not affect one age group. According to the New Hampshire Department Of Justice on July 26, Attorney General John M. Formella filed a lawsuit against a handful of retail pharmacy chains for alleged over distribution of prescription opioids across New Hampshire. New Hampshire is one of the states that was hit the hardest by the opioid epidemic. In 2020 the state experienced a horrific opioid overdose death rate of 26.9 for 100,000 people, says the New Hampshire drug monitoring initiative.
WMUR Reports that in Concord NH a man has been found guilty in possession of fentanyl, an amount that was enough to kill a quarter of a million people. John Santiago was found guilty in September of possessing and conspiring to sell fentanyl, he was sentenced up to life in prison last week. Concord police say the investigation began with wiretapping after a tip on a drug dealer who was running a big operation out of haverhill Massachusetts. Officials also say they want a lengthy sentence for Santiago as a warning for anyone who traffic drugs or plans on.
In 2023, 7 out of 10 fentanyl laced pills contained a potentially lethal dose. The thing that makes fentanyl so dangerous is that it is filled with opiods, opioids are a highly addictive drug that can mask the feeling of pain from either surgery or just aches and pains . This crisis is not only a problem for adults but for children and teens too who do not know the dangers of drugs and the consequences they hold.
