New England Christmases are among some of the best in the world. Fresh blankets of snow on the ground and Christmas spirit is rising every single day. Nowadays, Christmas does not seem to feel as nostalgic to many teens and adults that may have “grown out of Christmas”, but according to Yankee Magazine, Mommy Poppins, and New England Inns and Resorts, there are many local activities that can get you into the spirit. The Polar Express Train ride in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts is a very affordable way to gather holiday cheer with the whole family. Inspired after the popular Christmas film The Polar Express, the train attracts families from far and wide. Embark on the Polar Express in the comfort of your pajamas for some sweet treats, hot chocolate, music, and of course a chance to see Santa. This ride lasts for 90 minutes. Depending on which class is chosen tickets can range from $20-$100 depending on which New England ride is taken. There are plenty of other Polar Express rides in other New England locations.
Our second location for Christmas cheer will be the Stone Zoo ZooLights in Stoneham, Massachusetts. Enjoy a walk around in the Stone zoo where thousands of lights light up the whole zoo. Pair this wonderful experience with a visit to the Stone Zoo beforehand for a full day of family fun as well as an amazing night time experience that your family will not forget. Don’t count out the Festival of Lights in Wickford Village, Rhode Island. This small event in Wickford Village has every shop and citizen of this town jazzed up in holiday spirit. Christmas lights line shop windows with themed displays, and almost everywhere one may look has colorful lights galore. This unique town has been New England famous for its spectacular light shows and venues that are displayed throughout the holiday season and it attracts people from all across the region. Onto Santa’s Christmas at Charmingdale Farm in Candia, New Hampshire. Jump on an adventure in a horse drawn carriage through the fields of Charmingdale Farm to the “North Pole” with a visit from Santa, and cookies from Mrs. Claus. After the horse ride, pick a tree and cut it down for an even more authentic Christmas tradition.
