Timberlane’s senior football players feel uncertain in their team’s ability as they face a difficult season due to a loss of multiple essential players to graduation. The Owls defeated the Spaulding Raiders in a close 27-22 victory on September 10th. Despite the rain and thunderstorms delaying the game from the 9th to the 10th of September, the Owls showed out for the game and put in their best effort considering a tough loss to the Exeter Blue Hawks the week prior.
Timberlane’s success in D1 last year was due to hard work and constant time put into the team. Several key players that contributed to this success were Camden Zambrowicz, Jaden Mwangi, and Matt Williams. Due to the player’s recent graduation, Timberlane must build up their team once again as they have done these past years. Senior wide-receiver, Tyler Chiccino, is a key player who believes that their strength is their passing game. Chiccino added that “we should have won by more,” giving an incentive to be even more aggressive and score more frequently in their next game.
Gary Shivell, a senior receiver and safety at Timberlane stated that they have “good team chemistry” and that they are facing challenges while being “down people.” Shivell, who is also committed to Division one school Iona for lacrosse, brings great leadership and really helps to keep everyone motivated. Shivell thinks that “we are going to be playing some good teams and we are going to go through some adversity.”
