Netflix came out with a new series called Wednesday on November 23rd, 2022 and views have skyrocketed. The show is based upon the story of The Addams family and focuses on the character Wednesday Addams who deals with the struggles of going to a new school with a monster mystery. Wednesday is played by rising actress Jenna Ortega who has also starred in other major films. There are eight episodes in the first that were all filmed by Tim Burton which took place in Romania from September 2021 to March 2022. This series has hit the English language record for most hours watched in a week and has even beaten out the views of season 4 of Stranger Things.

The series starts off with Wednesday getting expelled from her school after dumping live piranhas in the school pool while the swim team is practicing since they bullied her brother. As a result, her parents sent her to a school called Nevermore Academy filled with many monstrous outcasts. She finds it difficult to connect to her classmates and especially her new roommate who has a bubbly personality unlike Wednesday’s emotionless and cold personality. Wednesday also discovers she has physic abilities which helps her solve the monster mystery killing spree at her school murder mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago along with tangled relationships.

As the show has blown up, there are a couple of things that have stuck out to fans. The scene where Wednesday is dancing to the song The Goo Goo Muck by the Cramps started blowing up online. The dance was choreographed by Ortega herself and states she was inspired by goth dancing from the 1980’s. It was also surprising to fans that one of the teachers in the show is played by Christina Ricci who played Wednesday Addams in the 90’s films. It’s interesting they got Ricci in the show although there have been many comparisons of different portrayals of Wednesday herself. There have also been all kinds of videos and photos of the cast that have been blowing up online.

After watching this series, I really enjoyed the storyline and plot. I’d say it’s worth a watch for people to binge watch because there’s a lot of action and mysteries and it’s considered a comedy horror series. As of right now the show has gained 341 million hours in the first week and we wonder if Wednesday will get a season 2. It’s crazy that the series has gotten popular so fast and we’re given more work from Tim Burton himself.
