2022 has been the year of animated movies, but none of the recently released animated movies have been as captivating as the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (JJK 0).  JJK 0 acts as a prequel to the animated series Jujutsu Kaisen which follows main character Yuji Itadori on his sorcery journey. However, those who have never heard of the current one season series can still watch the recently released JJK 0 movie and fall in love with the plot line and hopefully become interested in the series. JJK 0 has been our favorite movie we have watched this year and we firmly believe that there is no topping the bar it has set!

MAPPA, the Japanese animation studio Founded in 2011 by Madhouse co-founder and producer Masao Maruyama, is famous for releasing the most captivating anime series and movies. Most popularly known for animating the 4th season of the 2013 anime series Attack on Titan, MAPPA studio was given the job of animating the JJK 0 movie along with the series. This made many fans happy as the MAPPA animation style is otherworldly.  As stated by QuotetheAnime, “MAPPA studios have always been known for the high-quality animation they provide to a manga adaptation. The Anime stays faithful to the source material while improving on things that could use some touch-ups.”

As summarized by Polygon, “Set in a world where humans emanate Cursed Energy known as Curses or Cursed Spirits, the Jujutsu Kaisen anime focuses on Yuji Itadori, a high-schooler who becomes a vessel for Ryomen Sukuna, one of the most powerful Curses in existence.. The basic synopsis of the 2020 series is also the synopsis for Jujutsu Kaisen 0, which walks a different high-schooler through the same induction process. Protagonist Yuta Okkotsu is very different from Yuji — Still, the similarities between the setups of the TV series and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 can’t be overlooked.” It’s practically similar to the film as both a prequel and a revamp. No matter what you choose to call this film, the 105-minute film is similar to the series by showing alike notes by showcasing the idea of a living-weapon social outcast joining with the crowd of Jujutsu witchcraft and Cursed Spirits and so forth.

Overall, we recommend this film with 10/10 stars for all to view. Even if you don’t enjoy animated films, you’re destined to enjoy JJK 0.
