The grunge style has been around for some time. It started in the 80s and still is worn today.  This style is making its way back into 2022 and so many people are starting to wear it again. Some may think it is outdated or needs to stay in it’s time but many others disagree. From leather jackets, graphic tees, and classic black boots, this style will definitely be coming back in 2022.

When thinking of grunge fashion many don’t know the true look of what it used to be.  When reading BAZAAR, the fashion magazine, they tell us all the do’s and don’ts of grunge fashion. BAZAAR said “grunge is all about de-emphasizing the silhouette of the body and looking “untidy” in an attempt to mirror the cool look of popular musicians in both punk and heavy metal rock bands.” This style has dated back to the 80s and has been a very popular aesthetic to master, and now with the help of BAZAAR we really can do it right. They have given many different looks to help with this and show where we can find them affordable. Making sure you are comfortable but still rock and roll is definitely a must have for 2022.

I had asked my mother about grunge style in the 80s and she said that she thinks it’s coming back and she sees many teenagers starting to dress grunge. I would say this is true. Stores like Tillys, PacSun , and many more just like it are selling nirvana tees, doc martens, and even runways are giving new grunge collections. Many fashion brands like Coach, and Vevers have been liking the grunge look when portraying it in their newest runway shows. For example, Coach just has a show February 14th 2022 revolving around grunge clothing.

Grunge is worn by many celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Willow Smith, Rita Ora, Kristen Stewart, and Mary Kate Olsen. That is only a few of the many who wear this style every day. Some wear it to parties, runaways, events, and much more. A$AP rocky has also taken streetwear and grunge and put them into one. He called it  “upscale Grunge” and has mentioned it was a tribute to bands like Nirvana, and Pearl Jam.

Kurt Cobain (the frontman of Nirvana)  is iconic for his Grunge Style, and really the person who brought it all to life. Before rock stars were wearing spandex and tight clothing then Kurt came along and showed his way of doing it. Vogue said “Cobain’s rough around the edges appearance immediately impacted  the birth of grunge within the fashion world.  His signature Christian Roth sunglasses and oversized sweaters became the outline of grunge styling. Additionally, Cobain’s  love towards distressed jeans, silk pajama shirts, layered flannels, and painted nails became the foundation among the world’s youth.”

Grunge style has been around for a very long time and really has never gone away. We see how it’s worn in everyday life and even seen on runways. There are many possibilities of having that grunge aesthetic, and with the help of so many clothing brands you can achieve it. There are no rules in fashion. Be ready to embrace the grunge trend and add some of your wardrobe in to give it some flare. In the end, no matter what year it is, grunge will stick with us and keep going through time.
