Alec Baldwin Kills a Woman on Set

In the world of movies, Alec Baldwin has always been a prominent figure on the scene. He is known for his role in movies like The Hunt for Red October, Boss Baby, Beetlejuice ect. Alec has done plenty of scenes that were considered dangerous and harmful. Alec was on set for a new movie coming out called Rust, when a deadly incident occurred that hurt and actually killed a woman on the set. The men behind all of the madness was Alec Baldwin and the officials on the set of Rust . 

The movie Alec Baldwin was on set for, Rust, is a western based movie with a lot of gun shot scenes and overall violence. Alec was involved in a scene where he fires a gunshot at another character in the movie. In movies, when there is a gunshot scene they use a fake bullet called a “Blank” which makes the exact same sound as a gun shot but it does not actually fire a round. BBC news says that Alec’s gun was loaded with actual live bullets instead of the blanks that should have been in the gun. According to AP news Alec killed the cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and also hurt the director Joel Souza. 

There were a few factors that played into this incident happening. According to AP news, the gun was one of three on a little cart set on the side of the scene that film armorer Hannah Gutierezz put aside. Then, assistant director Dave Halls grabbed the gun, unaware that it was loaded, and handed it to Alec to use in the upcoming scene. There essentially was a big miscommunication on movie management that caused this horrible incident to occur.Prop guns take a lot of preparation into being put into a movie, things like only allowing certified people to hold them and checking the gun before and after the scenes are shot. BBC news says that people on the set of the movie can still be charged with criminal offenses, including Alec Baldwin himself. Alec Baldwin went on record about the situation and said, “I have no words for the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, a mother and deeply admired by our colleagues.”

There are a lot of factors that go into making a movie look as realistic as possible but also safe to record at the same time. The writers want people to take your movie seriously, but you also want to make sure your actors are safe. This was a horrific freak accident that unfortunately took a person’s life and harmed another. This is not Alec Baldwin’s fault he has fired many guns with blanks in them before, and he expected to do the same here. Lessons learned from this are that life is precious and every moment you have on earth is not guaranteed.
